Women’s national team kicks off European Team Championship today
The European Ladies Team Shield, hosted by Liechtenstein, started early this morning, but physically the competition takes place on a field in Switzerland. The Estonian squad will be a rejuvenated one this time around. Elizaveta Sofia Reemet (Estonian Golf & Country Club), Kristella Sikk (Niitvälja Golfiklubi), Iiris Mätas and Triin Marleen Ustal (both Rae Golfiklubi). A total of 11 teams are participating. Follow the results here.
The tournament format is one day of stroke play, after which the teams that will play for places 1-8 on the following days and the teams that will play for places 9-11 will be determined.Due to the peculiar format of the tournament, with one foursome and two individual draws in place play, it is difficult to pick favourites, as it can often be enough to have two good players in a team to go far.
This is the fourth time that an Estonian team has participated in the tournament. On three consecutive occasions, they have suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat in the quarter-finals.
